Job Description: Senior Design Engineer –-ATMO (Division of Robert Bosch) - Charleston, SC
ATMO is a division within Robert Bosch LLC which develops special
machinery, test-benches and process machines for Bosch internal use.
Current locations are: Germany, Spain, United States, China, India, and
Mexico. ATMO employs over 1000 engineers and technicians world-wide. In
support of Bosch’s business operations within the NAFTA-Region,
ATMO maintains a facility in Charleston, SC, which designs and
manufactures production machinery and equipment for all Bosch plants.
CLASSIFICATION/DESCRIPTION BRIEF:
• Design for high volume production of high precision components
utilizing assembly machines, fastening systems, part feeding and
handling systems, pressing/joining processes, test equipment, jigs,
fixtures and gages.
• Develop concepts for machines or assembly lines, estimate costs, and develop quotations per customer requirements.
• Perform design lead function on projects requiring mechanical engineering activity including (but not limited to):
- Lead development of mechanical specification and concept based on project deliverables and customer requirements.
- Direct activities of project design team to advance design to successful conclusion.
- Interface with project management to ensure that milestones are achieved within project budget.
- Oversee concept and design to ensure that high quality of END2 output is attained.
- Assist in assembly, tryout and start-up of equipment, including
development of test plans, machine installation planning, customer
interface. Participate in simultaneous engineering activities.
Participate in project management activities.
- Adhere to internal processes related to the design function.
- Maintain design timeline and provide regular status updates.
• Document designs completely (assembly drawings and parts lists, detail positions, pneumatic/function plans)
• Communicate effectively with customers.
• Provide technical direction to mechanics, electricians, and contractors as required.
• Establish and maintain contacts with vendors and suppliers of hardware and systems support.
• Know, apply and conform to governmental, industry, corporate and
local standards to ensure the proper accomplishment of design,
assembly, testing, runoff, and acceptance/signoff of production
equipment.
• Provide training to mechanics, electricians and manufacturing engineers as required
• This position may require travel throughout North America and potential travel outside the United States.
REQUIREMENTS:
• Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering.
• Minimum 8 yrs experience designing assembly and test systems,
lean mfg. systems, including robotics, pick and place units, feeders,
pneumatics, servo systems, pressing technology, bonding, dispensing,
drives/transmission, metrology systems, etc.
• Experience leading design teams in a fast paced environment.
• CAD experience; Solidworks and AutoCAD2006.
• Experience in working with analytical tools such as FMEA, FEA, MTM, etc.
• Knowledge and experience in developing, installing and testing manufacturing and assembly processes.
• Experience generating work instructions, operating instructions, preventative maintenance instructions.
• Experience coordinating build, debug, and validation of machinery.
• Able to work independently. Results oriented with strong work ethic, initiative, and strong leadership.
• Project management skills
• Intercultural cooperation. Ability to function effectively in a team environment
PREFERRED:
• Experience in automotive component manufacturing and/or assembly
• Experience with hydraulic systems
• Experience with Inventor
• German and/or Spanish language skills
